All these Banana Oatmeal Cookies are hands down the very best banana flavored cookie I have ever had. Not only are they really are moist and chewy for times, but they are unmistakably banana-y.

Banana may be one of those flavors that can get lost once you inhale with this. It can be really delicate flavor. It always bums me out if that occurs, cause I really like the taste of banana. And thus does the hubs.

When good flavored banana treats come together, we move a little crazy for them.

And they are so moistthey almost melt in your mouth. Plus, with both oats and banana in them, they're basically healthy, correct? And ideal for breakfast!

I must warn you. The smell of the mixture -- together with all the banana -- is intoxicating. The hubs was at the kitchen creating the dough with me (we left a bargain that contained him baking with me) and we had to work hard not to put our faces, or even a straw, right into it.

You then add all of the dry ingredients (which means you simply use one bowl yay!) And mix it all together!

To bake them, spoon about a tablespoon of bread and produce a thick disk, as opposed to a ball. They spread a bit when baking, and therefore don't place them too close together. Bake them for about 10-12 minutes for a fine, moist cookie. So yummy!

1 other thing I love about this recipe is where it came from.

My grandma (my father's mom) passed away in 2008. Once I started baking a lot a couple of years back, my uncle gave me her cookbook he'd had didn't use. I've had it on my list to produce a number of her desserts ever since.

It was a tradition for my grandma to make them every Christmas! She gave everyone a huge tin of these, which was really a feat with 6 sons.

I now know just how much of an accomplishment it had been! My goodness. She left them using a conventional gaufrette iron which goes over a open fire. My dad and I had them on the stove. They cook very fast and you need to be precise. Too long and they sort of disintegrated into iron. As long and they burnt to the iron and also we needed to wash it out.

My father was pouring the batter and taking away the biscuits, I had been operating the ironthe hubs was time things. It required many attempts to get it right, but they had been so great! I have tried to make them again on my own and it never works. I would like to share the recipe, however, the dang irons are so tough to discover. And pricey. At some point, I would love to just earn a cookie with the same gaufrette flavor.

For now though, I'm sharing these biscuits. I really don't believe I had them made them, but they are from her novel.

It's such a fun recipe book to check through, also. There are so many handwritten pages, clippings and paper recipes that were taped into the publication. I really like the way that they used to compose recipes at the paper -- they had the man who submitted it's title and cute little tales. It's so enjoyable to read through them! What another time on earth!

Anyways, I do not know where this recipe originated out. The newspaper looks like it was on a flier out of their square dance class or something (they were big into square dancing). It's definitely from West Virginia, in which they dwelt.

In any event, I am so happy to finally talk about a recipe out of her book with you! I made a few adjustments to make them thicker and puffier and they're delicious. There will be more to come from her recipe book, but for the time being like the banana.

Return: 34-36 COOKIES



1 cup More Bonuses brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup mashed bananas

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour

1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp baking soda

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

2 tsp cornstarch




3. Stir in oats.


5. Flatten dough a little bitinto thick disks. They will disperse a little when baked.

6. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges just begin to golden.
